Red Alert 2 Ladder Tournament Announced
.
[Community news]

Electonic Arts Los Angeles and Strike-Team bring to you the first C&C Red Alert 2 ladder tournament in five years!

Quote:
Comrades, Strike Team and Electronic Arts Los Angeles are teaming up for the next 3 months to host the first official EA sponsored Red Alert 2 Ladder Tournament in over 5 years! What better way to get pumped up and excited for Red Alert 3 than to kick it old school with the Soviets and Allies in some good old fashioned Red Alert 2 action! This ladder tournament will be officially hosted by Strike-Team using the XWIS servers (the official EA sponsored WOL servers for Red Alert 2), with all prizes sponsored by Electronic Arts Los Angeles and the Red Alert 3 development team!

The Red Alert 2 Ladder Tournament will be a 2 month long season starting this April 1 culminating in a 16-man bracket championship in June where one man, or woman, will stand as the first world-wide Red Alert 2 champion in a very, very long time.

QUALIFICATION DATES AND DETAILS
  • April 1 - Qualification Period 1. The Red Alert 2 XWIS Ladder will be reset. At midnight on April 30th, the top 8 comrades on the ladder will qualify for the championship tournament.
  • May 1 - Qualification Period 2. The Red Alert 2 XWIS Ladder will be reset once again. At midnight on May 31st, the top 8 comrades on the ladder will qualify for the championship tournament. Anyone who qualified in Period 1 may not qualify again. We will take the next sequential ranked person in the ladder should this happen.
  • June 7 & 8 - The Red Alert 2 Ladder Tournament Grand Championship will take place online using the XWIS servers. All matches will be "Best of 3" on a predetermined multiplayer map. The last comrade standing will be our world-wide champion!
PRIZES!
  • The grand prize winner will receive a $250 online gift certificate to any online retailer of their choosing, and a copy of Red Alert 3 when it ships, not to mention a glorious reputation!
  • 2nd place will receive a $50 gift certificate to any online retailer of their choosing, and a copy of Red Alert 3 when it ships.
  • The 3rd place runner-up will receive a copy of Red Alert 3 plus any EA game of their choosing.
  • The 16 comrades that qualify for the ladder season championship will receive an automatic entry in to the first phase of the Red Alert 3 Beta Test this summer.
  • In order to participate in this ladder tournament you must own Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and register your nickname on XWIS. Registering your nickname is as simple as logging in to Red Alert 2. Simply connect to XWIS by clicking "internet" in your game menu, and login with your desired username and password. Your password must be EXACTLY 8 characters long. Once you have logged in that nickname, it is automatically registered for you.

Once you play a ladder match, you can check out your stats and profile here!

http://xwis.net/xcl/ra2/ (Westwood style)

More detailed information on the first Red Alert 2 Ladder Tournament will be forthcoming when we reset the ladders on April 1. It's time to go old school Comrade, you could win big!

Who will be the first Red Alert 2 world-wide champion comrade of 2008?! Get ready to play and dust off that copy of Red Alert 2!

TS/RA2 SHP Radar Colour Editor Released
.
[Community news]

Over at PPM, two respected members of the C&C Community, Nyerguds and IcySon55 have made a new tool to ease modders. Here's the scoop:

This handy tool allows you to quickly change the radar colours of SHP files, to prevent them from showing up as black on the in-game radar. This is useful for fixing tiberium, ore, gems, bridges, rocks, and any other overlay type.

Features:
-Drag & Drop interface allows very quick opening of files
-Colour picker for faster colour selection
-Three save modes:
* Saving the current colour to the current frame
* Saving the current colour to the first or last 50% of the frames (Useful to ignore shadow frames on some SHPs)
* Saving the current colour to all frames
-The "Store Colours" and "Save Stored" functions allow quick copying of all colour values from one SHP file to another. This is especially handy for fixing tiberium, since blue triberium looks odd if you don't use the original colour values.

Notes:
-Requires the .NET Framework 2.0 to run
-Based on a tutorial by Bittah Commander

ModEnc Editing Festival
.

As reported by gordon-creAtive:
Quote:
Don't ask what the community can do for you - ask what you can do for the community

I'd like to announce the

ModEnc Editing Festival Week

This "event" aims at improving the quality of ModEnc. There are still some categories, that are not well ordered, pages that are not linked where necessary, a huge mass of copied Deezire page (DCoder said ~1600 from 2000) and not enough tutorials.
So I ask the whole community to draw their (active) attention on ModEnc for a week, being more exactly:

14.4.2008 - 20.4.2008

There exists a ModEnc article which holds all necessary information. Feel free to add some points if necessary.

Prizes!

At the end of the period, the best contributor will be chosen in a public vote. You can win a working legal steam account which contains the following games:
  • Half-Life
  • Counter-Strike
  • Opposing Force
  • Blue Shift
  • Half-LifeČ Episode 1
  • Codename Gordon (ok, it's freeware)
We got a second prize for you: a Premium Rapidshare.com Account. For details and up-to-date-information, please visit the ModEnc article.
Visit this ModEnc Article for more information.

PPM's Best Infantry Contest - results!
.
[Community news]

The Best Infantry Contest, which ended 2 and half weeks ago has released the results. There was a total of four entries, which follow in this order:

1st: Machine for his Jumpjet Infantry.

2nd: Blade for his PsiSpy.

3rd: DaFool for his Combat Engineer.

4th: partyzanPaulZy for his GI remake.

As you can see, these entries are quite usefull for both RA2 and TS. Head on to the topic at PPM to find two cameos for Blade's PsiSpy, darkened, resized, better shadowed version of DaFool's Combat Enginner - now actually useable and perhaps later - even better versions of Machine's and partizanPaulzy's infantry.
